Ayahuasca

The Spirit Vine

Huasca; Yagé; Brew; Daime; The Tea; La Purga

The nature of Ayahuasca is unique from all other hallucinogens

The visions are seen as real not a "hallucination" but as a doorway to other worlds which exist parallel our own

Anchor 2

Time Honored Peruvian Recipe

Fresh Ayahuasca Vine (Banisteriopsis caapi) combined with Chacruna leaves (Psychotria viridis). These  are boiled in water for 2 hours.

The water is then poured into another container and more water is added to the original plant material for another extraction lasting 2 ½ hours.

This process is repeated. All the extracts are combined and evaporated on a low fire until the reduced Ayahuasca tea remains.

We do not infuse our Ayahuasca with hallucinogens like Atropa (datura) or Belladonna, Angel Trumpet. These additives are included in some mixtures at commercial lodges to give you guaranteed visions. For those that do not know: Atropa is the active ingredient in PCP.

We discourage the use of any of the trumpet plants, or another additive to give you a false sense of visions. You will find that visions and experiences will come in their own time; according to your individual consciousness.

The entire process can take days

Your Spiritual Journey with us

True ceremonies do not normally include group situations where you are spiritually tutored; you already know why you're here. The Ayahuasca experience is an individual journey, not a communal event, or a party.

Instead, we focus on the natural beauty of the Amazon Rainforest, and during the day, when you are not taking part in the ceremony, you will be guided through the Botanical Gardens and waterways that surround the Amazon Refuge Lodge.

Here you will come in contact with the flora and fauna that inhabit our domain. This experience will provide you with a true connection to the earth, in an untouched environment. This will unite your soul with the natural spirits of Peru and the Earth.

Our partner, an owner of the lodge, will be your translator and guide for the journey you are setting out on, with over 40 years experience he is more qualified to assist you than any others in the Rainforest.

Welcome

Tripping the Peruvian Amazon,

The balance and power of nature is what’s most pure and fragile about our planet. That’s where my journey begins in Peru. Not in the port city of Iquitos, not in a Panamanian airport, and certainly not anywhere in my neighborhood in Florida.

The journey into the Yanayacu is more than a boat ride. At the risk of sounding cliché, it is a spiritual journey; it’s a trip through time…

One by one your trappings of modern advancement cease to be anything more than dead weight.

The cell phone has no signal; there is no Wi-Fi. And anyone worth their salt wouldn’t give a damn anyway if those amenities vanished at least for a time.

I spent my leisure time spear fishing, catching caiman, drinking rum at a jungle distillery, and learning the finer points of sloth wrangling.  Fruits are everywhere, as are any number of rare and exotic primates and birds. The Amazon truly has no parallel. On one late night romp down the river, bait fish literally jumped into my lap.

The power of the jungle is evident in its shamanistic traditions as well. The transcendent Ayahuasca, which has been wielded for various uses since before recorded history and its careful ceremonious application, continues today.

As a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, and a consummate traveler, the Ayahuasca ceremony is not for everyone. However, the intensity of the experience from ingesting the plant almost pales in comparison to the awesome sound of hearing the ancient icaros performed by the shaman himself. In the dead black of the still jungle night, lit only by the stars, the icaros ring out, bridging the gap between the unseen dimensions and the observable world.

With the utmost sincerity I can honestly say I have never experienced any journey quite so powerful, quite so moving, and with such little interference from the clanging noise of the modern world. If you’re reading this, it’s because you’ve heard the Peruvian jungle calling you. Heed the call. Swim in her rivers, eat her foods, and be wise to learn her inhabitants.
