Big Cat Project

Chingana

We have an agreement with the KuKama tribe, who administer this area, and we can accommodate any size research or production team. The range involved is over 900,000 acres of virtually untouched rainforest

In ‘2014’ we hosted the Discovery Channel’s producers of Naked and Afraid, one of the most watched cable shows in the network's history

Chingana commonly hosts Educational Institutions like: Harvard, Yale, University of Florida, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke, and others.

Noisy River Productions has all the credentials for sanctioned events: housing, insurance, helicopter medical evacuation, on site Doctor (if needed) Satellite Communication - WiFi, and government permissions for any production operation, and a complete network for all manner of transportation

Rescue Story

The jaguarundi (Herpailurus yagouaroundi) is a wild cat native to the Americas. Its range extends from central Argentina in the south to northern Mexico, through Central and South America east of the Andes. The jaguarundi is a medium-sized cat of slender build.

Below are the project points:

Identifying the habitat range and travel patterns

  • Using our lakes and rivers to place trail cams along many miles of shore by houseboat

  • Observing from our platform from as far away as possible

  • Identifying specific animals to estimate populations

  • Our guides the KuKama Indians will spot for us in the bush and identify on the expedition

  • Sound and video recording to identify those unsighted and assure a better count

  • Drone Pad, two plus mile visibility

Efforts to deter poaching and illegal sales of endangered species and their parts

  • We have experience with this first hand, may be possible to record a poacher camp

  • The KuKama Tribe deals with poacher sightings in their autonomous status. In eyewitness accounts I've seen the leaders assert their stewardship of the land firmly, but with dignity to the offenders

Rehabilitation of injured or orphaned cats in order to return them to the wild

  • This one of our main missions at our Conservation Center; success with orphaned baby Jaguar

  • Our philosophy is to provide a safe environment with the maximum exposure to the real Amazon rainforest

Explanations of how exploitation of cats in captivity negatively impacts conservation in the wild

  • We have a complete lecture designed to instruct zoo Jag visitors to the rainforest what to look out for in the markets, wild cat claws, skins, etc. are available throughout the Amazon River Basin

  • Caged cats and primates are also a concern

  • Basic education on all animal products

Anthropological examination of the KuKama’s interaction and lore concerning Big Cats

  • Traditional Uses: Interviews with the elders of the San Juan de Yanayacu KuKamas

  • Threats: Recorded in stories about Big Cats in the original tribal language in an effort to save this dying tradition

The map and locations represent 100 square miles of study area

  • The team will cover this area with six camera locations

  • Each location represents a unique habitat. Rotation of each site will allow 10 days of uninterrupted surveillance

  • Lake Moena will be staffed on the houseboat platform for the duration of the study
